Scholarships

Each year, SLGS raises funds to help Sri Lankan undergraduate students pursue their studies. As a Sri Lankan, you can give back to your motherland by joining hands with us and contributing to the Scholarship Program.

Objective

The main objective of this program is to financially assist Sri Lankan undergraduate students to pursue their academic endeavours. Our goal is to raise funds for scholarships awarded monthly for a period of one year. Currently, SLGS provides two scholarships worth Rs. 120,000, and we expect to expand the number of scholarships in the future.

The Annual Program Cycle

Funds are collected mainly from ticket sales for our Annual Gathering and Dinner Dance, and contributions are welcome throughout the year.

  1. 1
Candidate Selection SLGS chooses the university that will receive the scholarships, and its Vice Chancellor and deans nominate 10 potential candidates. SLGS then selects 5 of them.
  2. 2
Grant Scholarships SLGS transfers the annual scholarship funds to the university, which grants them to the selected students through its Bursar.

Scholarship Awardees

In their own words: what the scholarship has meant to past recipients.

2022–2023

“I am very grateful for this scholarship because it helps me a lot in the current situation in Sri Lanka. I used the scholarship to purchase books, stationery, and transportation for my second-year studies. I have kept aside a portion of the scholarship to help with other expenses. Thank you very much for helping me with this.”

“I want to express my gratitude for the financial support extended to me in this very difficult time. Everything is going well at the moment. The scholarship is a great support to continue my academics without depending on my parents during this challenging time. I hope this great effort will continue in the future as well to help other undergraduates who have financial difficulties. I also hope to help others in return when I complete my studies. I would like to thank you again for all that you are doing.”

Karagoda Vidana Gamage Nadeesha Sewwandi Faculty of Science, University of Kelaniya

“I am, following a B.Sc (Hons) computer science degree at the University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka. I am so thankful to have been selected for the scholarship program. This scholarship helped me a lot in my educational activities. The cost of living in Sri Lanka has increased due to the current economic crisis. In such a situation, it costs me a lot of money to continue my studies at the university. This scholarship program assists my parents, who are unemployed and struggling to support the expenses of my brother, who is a school student and myself. We are thankful to your organisation in this regard.”

Lihini Udayangi Faculty of Information Technology, University of Moratuwa

“The SLGS scholarship really helped me to cover up all the expenses for my studies in the university. It was a great help to my parents too because they don’t want to worry about my expenses during my stay at the university.
